About Marc

With over 20 years experience in the business of healthcare and advocacy, Marc Kealey is now a leading voice for transformation in Health care and drug reform as Chief Advocate at Kealey and Associates Inc. – an advocacy and strategy implementation firm in Canada. He is an advisor to several organizations in Canada and internationally on healthcare and drug reform.

Marc Kealey is an expert in governance, health care communications and business management process. Marc’s success has been honed from years of experience in politics, business, public policy and governance. As recently as spring 2007, Marc was CEO of the Ontario Pharmacists’ Assocation – the largest professional organization serving the interests of pharmacists in Canada. During his tenure he succeeded in generating 90 million media impressions annually. Marc steered the organization through the toughest issues of the day including the Transparent Drug System for Patients Act and launched the $50 million MedsCheck program as the co-chair of the province’s Pharmacy Council. recognized in North America as a strong advocate for the preservation of the multi-billion dollar drug supply chain in both Canada and the US, Marc Kealey remains the loudest voice on cross border re-importation. For this effort he was awarded a Who’s Who in health care in the US for 2007.

Marc is a tireless advocate for smoking cessation and helped deliver on the Smoke Free Ontario legislation. He was given the Heather Crowe Award for this work.

Prior to Joining the OPA, Marc was General Manager of  AECL – Canada’s nuclear trust. He worked in Europe, Asia, and North America to sell other countries and utilities on the benefits of CANDU technology – especially in use of medical isotopes. He arranged the event and accompanied the Prime Minister to China in 2003 to open the CANDU reactors in Qinshan.

Prior to his work at AECL, Marc Kealey was a management consultant in Latin America. In this role he was recognized particularly for the work he accomplished in Cuba – he was the first Canadian to successfully negotiate an infrastructure project there, which lead to similar work in Latin America and Europe. He continues this work today.

Before his consulting career, Marc served as the Administrator of Whitby General Hospital. He led the acute care restructuring campaign in Durham Region (east of Toronto). His work there laid the groundwork for the creation of the first hospital system in Ontario and forged the template for the model in in practice throughout Canada.

Prior to this, Marc Kealey served as an advisor to former Prime Minister of Canada John N. Turner and former Ontario Premier David R. Peterson.

Marc is dedicated to public service and is involved in many organizations and causes. Marc has been a board member at McMaster University, a board member of the Smart Systems for Health Agency in Ontario, and sits on the Advisory Council at University of Waterloo’s Pharmacy School. In addition Marc Kealey sits on a number of boards of both privately held and publicly traded organizations.

Marc Kealey is well travelled internationally. Marc speaks on health issues throughout the world and was recently invited to represent Canada together with former Prime Minister John Turner in Israel for ceremonies to mark the anniversary of the assassination of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. In 2005 Marc was invited to lead a delegation of Canadians to Ukraine to oversee elections in that country’s move to democracy.

Marc Kealey is a gradute of the University of Waterloo in Ontario and attended Kent State University in Ohio.

He currently lives in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.
